Camaro could receive 500 horsepower

The new model Camaro could be the recipient of a new 6.2 liter V8 having direct-injection boasting over 450 horsepower. The base of the new engine will be on GM`s present all-aluminum Gen IV, that is on the Cadillac Escalade, Vortec 6.2 liter V8 - L92.

One engineer from GM affirms this new engine is expanding `well north` of 450 horsepower, a plus of 10% in low-end torque, and still making a 3-6% rise in economy of the fuel over the present engine. Wards reports the prototype engine is now tested in a Cadillac Escalade on the proving grounds at GM.

The engine has eight high-pressure injectors feeding fuel right into the side of the combustion room with 2,250 pounds per square inch.
