Ford exporting autos from China

Ford is thinking to export autos from China, says CEO Alan Mulally. `Export is a possibility,` Mulally said during a Chinese media event. `It's all about competitiveness. We will use our research and engineering and manufacturing in China for worldwide operations. The real competitors going forward will be the ones who leverage their assets around the world`. The CEO was in China for the opening event of Ford`s second auto assembly factory.

Automotive News reported Honda produces a small auto in China exporting it to the European market. China`s Chery Automobile will assemble a small vehicle for the Dodge dealers in the U. S. in mid-2009.

Ford`s newest factory — in Nanjing, China — has the annual capacity of 160,000 cars producing the Mazda2.

The newly shown Verve Concept model is a candidate for the China production. `I can imagine making the Verve in China is a possibility` said Mulally.

More and more carmakers will develop areas for auto production because of the smaller overall operating prices, but the quality standards may slip.
