The newest turbo technology from Hyundai has rise from collaboration between Hyundai, Chrysler and Mitsubishi. Hyundai revealed recently that its new Genesis Coupe will run with a four-cylinder turbo — a 3.8L V6 is optional.
"We like the idea of turbo, so we'll do others," John Krafcik, the product development vice president for Hyundai Motor America, told Automotive News. "I think the timing is good because no one else has a four-cylinder, rear-drive platform with a turbocharger".
"We'll get more horsepower and better gas mileage through smaller displacement and direction injection," he added. "People talk about diesels all of the time, but it's extremely expensive".
Hyundai probably won't be producing a hybrid until 2013.
