Four states will be using RFID chips in the drivers` licenses

The states of Vermont, Arizona, Washington and Michigan announced that — in conjunction with the Department of Homeland Security in U.S. — will bring RFID (radio frequency identification) chips in the drivers` licenses. These chips will broadcast the identity of the holder to some special reading devices.

`Multiple cards can be read at a distance and simultaneously with vicinity RFID technology, allowing an entire car full of people to be processed at once` a Passport Card technology DHS sheet explained.

These new licenses will be first launched like a voluntary program, and then likely becoming mandatory.
