A1GP car racing against a Boeing 777

In the recent history these kind of races do not seem that unusual anymore- in the last year, cars competed against all kind of aircrafts among which we can remember the Volkswagen Tuareg against a Boeing 747 or the F1 car that run against a jet-fighter. Now we bring you another less common race: a A1GP car competing with a Boeing 777 at the New Zealand’s Airport. The event represented a promotional effort for the A1GP next race which is about to come in 2 weeks and will take place in Taupo, New Zeeland. The Taupo race is actually the first race in which the cars will be running on ethanol blended fuel.

There have been 2 races out of which each of the players won one of them. On the first one, the A1 racer Johny Reid (member pf the New Zealand A1 team) had a bad start and ended up by damping the first race. However, in the second one, he had no more problems with his initial traction and actually caught the aircraft just before it took off.In the first face Reid's Black Beauty race car reached nearly 300kmh as it sped past the Boeing -the jet left the tarmac at just under 270kmh. Organizers said they were amazed at the number of people who turned out at various vantage points around the track to get a glimpse at the race.
