South Korean cars import could be blocked in Canada?

Recently, there are rumors that the import of South Korean cars- especially those from Kia and Hyundai- in Canada could be blocked by its officials if the Asian country does not allow Canadian cars enter easier on the market. Moreover, it seems that the latest discussions between the two capitals, Ottawa and Seoul, ended in South Korea's advantage. However, there is still no guarantee that Canadian cars will hit very soon the market in South Korea anymore.

According to Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty, in 2006 there were over 114,000 Korean cars exported in Canada while there were imported just a little over 100 Canadian-made vehicles. This news could mean that cars made in Canada like Ford Crown Victoria, Lincoln Town Car, Mercury Grand Marquis, Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger as well as the upcoming Dodge Challenger and Chevrolet Camaro might not enter the South Korean market in 2008 either.

The Canadian officials sent a message also to the Indian carmaker, Tata Motors, to announce them that if there are plans to sell their Nano car in Canada, they will have to built it in Canada and not India. However, Tata Motors did not make any statement regarding this until now.
