Ford to cease Taurus X by 2010

Although Ford Taurus X has been on the market since 2005 only — it was marketed, until last year, under the Freestyle nameplate — the Dearborn-based carmaker could be planning to stop its production by 2010. Taurus – the platform on which Taurus X is built — will be receiving by next year a significant refresh, but Taurus X will not have any part in the redesign.

According to Jalopnik, the Taurus X sales will end in 14-18 months, that means the Taurus X will be disappearing from the dealer lots by 2010.

So, while Ford has not make yet an official announcement about the ceasing of the Taurus X, the demise news isn`t exactly a surprise. The crossover sales have been slow, despite the auto`s redesign and renaming the 2008 unit year.

The next Ford Flex could also play a role in the decision to not continue the Taurus X as both autos would be redundant for the crossover lineup at Ford.
