2009 Pontiac G8 GXP revealed at the Auto Show in New York

Pontiac will reveal at the Auto Show in New York the G8 GXP 2009, an all-new high-performance sedan joining G6, Solstice and Torrent GXP units in Pontiac dealerships at the end of this year.

The G8 GXP runs with a 6.2L LS3 V-8 small-block, currently rated at 402 hp with 402 lb.-ft. torque pending the final SAE certification. This engine is now the newest member of General Motors’ V-8 small-block family. It has a revised, bigger-bore cylinder block, L92-style cylinder heads, high-flow; larger-diameter pistons; some unique camshaft plus camshaft timing; revised valve train having offset intake rocker arms; high-flow fuel injectors; and high-flow intake manifold.

Pending the final tests, the G8 GXP model is expected to produce 0-to-60 mph performance of around 4.7 seconds, plus a quarter-mile time at 13.0 seconds with 108 mph.

The G8 GXP unit rides on the 114.8-inch (2915 mm) wheelbase of the G8 featuring wide front (62.7 inches / 1,592 mm) plus rear (63.3 inches / 1,608 mm) tracks. So, the four-wheel independent suspension’s fully adjustable and it’s tuned for the maximum performance in the family of G8. The ride and handling of the GXP was developed and validated at racetracks and highways all around the world, including the well known Nuremberg Ring. It’s rewarding the driver with immediate, sharp responses, as well as well-balanced street feel during the spirited driving.
