Pontiac will reveal in New York the 2009 Solstice Coupe

Pontiac will reveal at the Auto Show in New York the 2009 Solstice Coupe. The model will arrive in early 2009in dealerships. It`s inspired by the Solstice coupe concept that was shown at the International Auto Show in 2002 in North America.

Despite its new look, that’s quite dramatic, engineers made just minor changes of structure to create this Solstice coupe. The rear fascia and rear fenders are the same as those found on the convertible unit. The new taillight assemblies make the tapered roofline smoother.

This coupe runs by a basic 2.4L Ecotec four-cylinder engine, generating 173 hp, while the GXP variant is equipped with a turbocharged Ecotec 2.0L engine having 260 hp.

“Today’s Solstice is the top-selling roadster in the U.S., and we believe this new model has even broader appeal,” said Jim Bunnell, the general manager for Buick-Pontiac-GMC. “The coupe has all the design cues and pleasing performance of the original roadster, and is an all-season alternative for people who enjoy open-air driving”.

“The Solstice Coupe represents a major collaboration of design and engineering,” said Bruce Kosbab, the chief engineer. “The sleek lines of the new roof give the car a fresh appearance, yet only minimal changes were made to the body structure – it’s a great example of building on an already solid foundation”.

The coupe’s expected to come in early 2009 in Pontiac dealerships.
