Hyundai Genesis will not be going to Europe

The Genesis luxury sedan debuted at the Detroit Auto Show in January is something the people in Europe will really not enjoy. The Korean automaker affirms the failure on Toyota`s Lexus premium brand name to sell vehicles in high numbers in the European zone is one reason for this decision. `We looked at Lexus` track record in Europe` said Oles Gadacz - Hyundai spokesman.

Lexus sold 40,636 autos in Europe and Turkey last year, according to JATO Dynamics. So, Gadacz said the EU plans for some tougher limits on the CO2 emission were yet another factor. Large, strong vehicles like the Genesis, which has its power from a 4.6-liter V8 engine, features high emissions of CO2.

The Genesis – a rear-wheel-drive model will be on sale in the United States, Korean and China beginning in the summer. The Infiniti M and Lexus GS will be its main competitors. Lee Hyun Soon - Hyundai’s head of research said the automaker will be concentrating on selling the mini-, small and the lower-medium vehicles in Europe.
