2010 BMW 5-Series using twin-turbo V8

Over the past few months, spy photographers managed to capture lots of images of the future 2010 BMW 5-series. While the pictures have given us some overall idea of what to be expecting from this next-generation 5-series — both on inside and out — we didn't know exactly what would be under the new sedan’s hood. But thanks to this new report, we now have more information.

When the all new 5-series bows — likely in 2010 — it will have the same twin-turbo V8 that’s on the X6, said BMWBlog.com. So, as in X6-guise, the V8 twin-turbo will produce around 400 horsepower on the 5-series —putting it in the same neighborhood as the E39 M5 by BMW.

It’s believed also that the base 5-series will be equipped with the same twin-turbo six that’s on the BMW 335i and 135i.

Outside of this M5, the next-generation 5-series will now be available having a wide range of engines — that includes eight, six and four cylinder engines — although just the twin-turbo six and the eight-cylinder engines are really expected to make it into America.

The new 5 will have also Park Distance Control plus an around view monitor system, that’s similar to the Around View Monitor from Infiniti.
