Mid-engine sports coupe for Volkswagen

olkswagen made the first attempts of debuting a mid-engine auto with the introduction of Concept R and EcoRacer. These were only concepts, never meant for any production. So the future sports vehicle (set to be found in both roadster and coupe variants) will be the firm’s first true attempt on launching on the sports auto market and will be on sale hopefully by the end of 2011.

This future sports auto, which doesn't have any name for the moment, there's rumored to borrow Concept R’s design and EcoRacer’s whole engineering. And under the hood Volkswagen wants to place a wide area of mid-mounted 4-cylinder engines, that includs VW’s 1.4-liter TSI 168bhp gas engine plus a brand new 1.6-liter 125bhp TDI common-rail diesel. So the 0 - 60 mph sprint is made under 7 seconds plus fuel consumption as high like 63 mpg.

Audi will produce also a higher end variant of the auto. A first concept variant will be unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show this November.
