Volkswagen producing in 2010 drop-top

Golf/Rabbit the sixth-generation of VW, first broke cover only weeks ago, but we already have learned of some iterations of this hatchback set to be joining the lineup. It was unveiled earlier on this month that the GTI and GTI-R variants of the Golf are now in the works, and comes word that some convertible model will be joining the Golf lineup.

The all-new Golf convertible's expected to reach the market on 2010. “It is a demanding time frame,” an insider reported to the Automotive News. “But the new Golf convertible is aiming for spring business the year after next.”

To get the convertible units to market by 2010 and to save money, Volkswagen will be using a changed variant of the A3’s soft convertible top by Audi for use in the Golf model. Pricing-wise, that Golf convertible will be slotting between the Eos and the New Beetle convertible.

Volkswagen’s factories in Mosel and Wolfsburg will produce the brand new drop-top.
