Brilliance, state-owned carmaker producing BMWs in China in a joint venture featuring the German maker, announced that it will show 2009 units at the International Auto Show in North America in January in Detroit.
Though Chinese carmakers showing autos in Detroit is old news, a Brilliance spokesperson reported to the Automotive News China that this automaker is serious on selling vehicles in the U.S. during the 2009.
Apparently, 2 Brilliance units - the midsize BS4 plus the larger BS6 mode l- were sent to America in 2007 for crash testing and emissions. He Gouhua, Brilliance’s Vice President says that the autos passed the safety tests but not the testing of the emissions. Still, we don't know what structural changes were made between 2006 – time when the auto flunked a test in German - and 2007.
