Chevrolet unveiled the first official pictures of the Colbalt replacement that`s called the Cruze. GM hopes that it will be its upcoming world-car, having the official presentation away from home in October at the Auto Show in Paris. Sales begin also in March 2009, in Europe, but the auto will not arrive until 2010 in the U.S..

The Cobalt by Chevrolet was a great step forward from that stale Cavalier, and the Cruze now will be great step in quality from Colbalt, giving Chevy a true contender in the small auto game. In America, GM the Cruze will run with a 4-cylinder turbocharged, 1.4-liter direct-injection delivering up to 40 mpg on highway driving.

"Our goal in designing Cruze was to be bold, not evolutionary," says Taewan Kim - chief designer. "We wanted to take a big step forward, making a strong design statement for Chevrolet products around the world."

"We are proud that Europe is leading the introduction for this global product," said Wayne Brannon, the Executive Director at Chevrolet Europe. "Chevrolet has always stood for expressive value and Cruze delivers on that promise like never before. It further redefines Chevrolet with its design, quality, materials and great style inside and out. The fit and finish for gaps and interfaces sets a new standard for this segment in Europe and around the world."

The Chevrolet Cruze model will be available for the Europeans from 2009 March, followed by some other global markets having regional-specific choices of engine.
