Hyundai works on V8 5.0L Tau for North America

Hyundai is now preparing to unveil its brand new Equus sedan on regions outside America, but apparently some of the large sedan`s pieces will make State-side on the Genesis sedan model. Although Genesis just debuted with the all new V8 4.6L Tau of Hyundai, the Korean carmaker appears to be working on a bigger 5.0L variant of the all-new powerplant for consumption in the U.S..

Motor Trend reported that Hyundai engineers are working currently on a 5.0L variant of the Tau unit used on the Equus to using it on the market in North America. However, the economy of fuel will determine then if the all-new engine will get ultimately the green light for America. The Korean carmaker set an inside goal - 17/25 mpg city/highway – matching the 4.6L Genesis model – plus is trying to reach the goal through direct injection. Once development's complete, that new engine will have between 400, 420 horsepower.

Hyundai has also a 5.5L variant of the Tau on its whole arsenal, but has deemed the engine to thirsty up for North America. It also has been rumored Hyundai's working on the forced induction variants of its Tau V8, applicable to 5.0L and 4.6L variants. No details on when that new engine will reach the market.
