There is no denying August was a tough month for almost every carmaker competing on the market in U.S., but there were actually some life signs if you're looking closely. Although sales on SUV and truck were still quite down from one year ago, the sales rebounded in a small amount from one month earlier. The full-size truck managed even to nab the best sales place.
But even having that hope glimmer, Toyota isn't confident the market in the U.S. has hit the rock bottom now. “It’s hard to say whether the U.S. market has hit bottom,” Kazuo Okamoto - Toyota Vice Chairman stated to Reuters.
Toyota unveiled last month that it's using 3.50 dollars as the lowest point for gas prices in U.S., but it's not banking on the cost of remaining this low indefinitely. The Japanese carmaker foresees 5 dollars gas in the upcoming 5 to 7 years. Toyota will be continuing focusing on more fuel-efficient autos while continuing curtailing its production of SUV and truck.
