The Project Genesis being underway at Chrysler already, the fat is being truly trimmed turning things around, ailing the auto maker. The latest move is the ‘twin’ units elimination - cars looking quite the same and based on that same platform, targeting the same clients, but sold on different brand names. A company spokesman now confirmed that either Jeep Liberty or the Dodge Nitro will be cut following the program.
Once one of these 2 twin SUV units is cut, and the other model will carry on . The cut action will happen then by 2012, as part of some larger plan for reducing the duplication on the Chrysler area. “As we move toward 2012, we won’t have this dual badging of products and duplicating products,” said Chief Steve Landry - North American sales, according to Detroit Free Press.
Landry sais “What we’ll do in our business model is not build similar vehicles on the same platform that kind of look and act like they have the same DNA”. Frank Klegon, the executive vice president in product development, thinks the Durango would be living on: “The Durango is a great name”.
Stuart Schorr - company spokesman confirmed the upcoming product slimming, stating on an email: “I would say the entire product lineup for the future is being reviewed to ensure we have a lineup that meets distinct customer needs and fits under one tri-branded roof”. Comment this news on the forum!
