Volkswagen revealed the future-generation variant of the Golf GTI, which is one of the most appreciated hot hatches available on market. So, as expected, the style remains quite similar to the old unit, mostly differentiated by an all-new front bumper. The last Golf GTI generation was purchased then by 1.7m persons and it is expected this new unit will do well too.
The platform of Mark VI Golf is the base for that GTI update plus, like the more mundane ones, the GTI unit is a step forward, not extremly different to the predecessor. So this MkVI model is retaining a turbo 2.0L engine develops 210hp (155kW), 10hp over the old unit. Maximum speed is limited on 239km/h plus VW claiming the auto will reach in 7.2 seconds the 62mph benchmark.
The performance of the engine has been tuned ensuring torque via the rev range, having the GTI making 280Nm early like 1,800pm. The grunt (low-end) helps the GTI also achieve the average economy of fuel of just 7.5L fuel per 100 kilometers, EU tests reports. Volkswagen concentrated on upgrating the dynamics of the all-new GTI model with a brand new sports suspension, XDS electronic differential and DCC adaptive damping.
This modest 10hp strength gain over the previous unit still leaves quite enough space for a stronger R32 replacement.
