Toyota presenting Urban Cruiser 2009The Urban Cruiser by Toyota made the official debut at the Auto Show in Paris. Sales will start in May next year and Toyota in hoping on selling 30,000 models a year. The Urban Cruiser auto has a 3,930 mm length, a 2,460 mm wheelbase and 314 litres or with 749 litres cargo capacity having rear seats that are folded down.

It's offered in 2 variants: 2WD unit fitted with sliding, reclining plus fold-down mode mechanisms that are similar to RAV4 seating system plus the AWD unit featuring some reclining seats plus the double fold down unit system.

It will debut featuring two very fuel efficient and the clean engines: re-engineered engine 1.4-litre D-4D (90 hp for the AWD and the 2WD variants) and an all-new Dual VVT-i 1.33-litre petrol engine (100 hp) having Stop & Start system. And both drive a brand new manual 6-speed transmission, delivering an optimum mix of driving pleasure plus class-leading efficiency of fuel.

Kosuke Shibahara, Urban Cruiser Chief Engineer explains that “With class-leading low emissions, the Urban Cruiser provides an ideal solution to the growing customer demand for flexible, yet socially responsible vehicles. The Urban Cruiser represents a new form of recreation vehicle with its distinctive personality and responsible All Wheel Drive performance. With many countries starting to introduce CO2 based taxation on vehicles, there’s never been a better time to launch an urban car that’s enjoyable to drive, both in and out of the city, yet with exceptionally low CO2 emissions”.
