Toyota Highlander 2009 will be geting a 4-cylinder engine

Toyota returning to the roots. Scaling back on big trucks production, is returning to the smaller units. This plan includes also the return for 2009 of 4-cylinder Highlander. So, when the SUV model first arrived in 2001, it has the 4 banger of Camry as basic, but that went away eventually. Now that the economy of fuel is back on fashion, a 4-cylinder engine 2.7-liter inline will be the brand new base.

The new 4-cylinder powertrain of the Highlander will make 187 hp - 5,800 RPM plus 186 lb.-ft. peak torque - 4,100 RPM. So, the engine will feature an EPA fuel economy estimated at 27 mpg highway, 20 mpg city and 22 mpg mixed. It is fitted to a 6-speed automatic ECT transmission.

The 4-cylinder Highlander unit will be among all the fuel efficiency leaders in the gas SUV mid-size department with EPA economy of fuel estimates 27 MPG highway, 22 MPG combined and 20 MPG city. It will be, in addition, EPA-rated as an ULEVII (Ultra Low Emission Vehicle).
