The future of Pontiac could become dominated increasingly by Holden rebadged imports, but the destiny of such auto is on insecure ground now. A recent report says the `sport truck` G8 ST — Holden Ute derived — might not arrive after all to the United States.
GM will reconsidering plans om offering the unit in North America, all this due to the market conditions, that are changing. The low-volume 2-door pickup auto had projected American sales of only 5,000 models a year.
“We are having lots of discussions,” said Susan Docherty, the vice president at Buick-Pontiac-GMC, to the Automotive News. “We would be foolish if we didn’t take a second look at whether or not that is the right thing to do.”
But Docherty said the regular sedan G8 — a Holden Commodore rebadged — has been quite successful. Docherty said General Motors is “not going to spend tons of money on product development” for Pontiac, plus will focus rather on strategies that involves a “minimal amount of investment.” Subscribe to Car news by Email |
