The future of Subaru

New day, new carmaker leaving some competitive series: Fuji Heavy Industries, the parent group of Subaru, announced recently it will be withdrawing from the World Rally Championship FIA at the 2008's end. Subaru, synonymous for many of us with the world rallying, cited “quick deterioration of the global economy” being the justification for the rally circuit pullout.

Subaru, supported by Prodrive motorsports engineering group, competed for nineteen years on these series. So, the Impreza WRX model available for the buyers is a direct product of the experience cumulated.

The carmaker won 3 manufacturer’s championships plus 3 driver’s championships on the WRC history.

Now Subaru will be continuing on supporting teams competing in the P-WRC / Group N categories, but not running a WRC full-scale effort in the next year.

The carmaker’s plans way beyond the upcoming year remain in the air.

In the recent weeks, we hear Suzuki is no longer on the WRC, Porsche exited that American Le Mans Series, Audi too and Honda quit F1.
