Audi is canceling the plans of Q5 hybrid

Only some months ago when the gas costs topped 4 Dollars a gallon in America, carmakers were trying to boost the fuel-efficient cars` production – hybrids especially. Over the last 6 months, the focus shifted from the fuel-efficient units to simply just... surviving, that forced Audi even to cancel a hybrid variant plans of its next Q5 compact SUV unit.

Audi now canceled the plans for the hybrid variant of its Q7 model earlier this year, having the Q5 Hybrid cancellation likely pushing launch of Audi for the technology of fuel-saving back to 2010 at least.

“Audi won’t produce a petrol-electric hybrid until we can make nickel metal hydride batteries safer in crash situations, and hybrid technology more efficient overall,” a source that's familiar with this situation reported Autocar. “Until then we will concentrate on producing more efficient diesel engines and aluminum chassis.”

Now that the Q5 hybrid version is off the table, you should look for Audi to launch the technology in its next A1 city auto. Not in the U.S., in 2010, in other global markets.
