Volvo is skipping the show in Tokyo

Volvo, the Swedish brand would not appear (like many automakers) in Tokyo at the Motor Show in October. Volvo is joining parent firm Ford, like Chrysler and General Motors, in skipping the largest new auto show in Japan.

The future of the show - at least in the current year - is now in doubt, this thanks to the big cancellations amount. `We have evaluated our participation at motor shows for 2009 to see how we can make the most out of our resources, and this year we decided not to participate at Tokyo` said Maria Bohlin - Volvo spokeswoman in an email addressed to Automotive News. The Japanese Automobile Manufacturers Association affirms it will take a decision by February about canceling that show totally.

Apparently this recent sales downturn is the excuse of a few carmakers that seek to pull out from some certain shows. Plus, attending a show cost greatly for the them, especially on the smaller markets.
