GM revamps the operations in Europe

GM plans to totally restructure its whole European marketing operations and sales giving more autonomy to its core brands, Chevrolet, Saab and Opel. Its intention is this: each brand name will be separately marketed - not necessarily part of the General Motors umbrella - stressing the differences that`s between each model.

General Motors will be continuing designating Chevrolet as the entry-level brand name aimed primarily to emerging markets out there, Opel like its volume brand from Western Europe and Saab like its premium/almost-luxury brand. 'Chevrolet is very different from Opel and both are different from Saab' Head of Sales at GM Europe, Brent Dewar, reported to Automotive News Europe.

The move comes also having the apparent motive (ulterior) of further putting distance between Saab and the rest of European units of GM. 'We will not be working through many different layers and we can better focus our brand' Jan-Ake Jonsson, European marketing director for Saab affirmed.
