BMW M3 GT4 will be unveiled in Geneva

BMW is great in competition cars modifications (if you remember the E46 M3s which dominated all the American Le Mans Series just before all the rules changed). So this is an important deal - BMW announcing a brand new track auto. We do not have technical information yet about the M3 GT4, but we will get a complete breakdown in March at the Geneva Motor Show.

This race auto was developed in Aschheim, Bavaria on the private BMW race track and the privateer teams specify their own parts from the racing kits, this according to all the series in the competition. The M3 GT4 model will cost about €120,000 (around $153,000). 'In 2009, we will witness the BMW M3 racing not only for the BMW Rahal Letterman Racing Team in the American Le Mans series. The new BMW M3 GT4 now also provides private teams with numerous opportunities' says Mario Theissen - BMW Motorsport Director. 'For over 50 years customer racing has been a cornerstone of BMW’s motorsport programmes. After all, what better global ambassador for the performance pedigree of BMW cars than a privateer who is competing for victory in a BMW vehicle'.

Drivers rivaling with the BMW units are offered some special incentive with this marque: the BMW Sports Trophy has existed since the sixties. The aim is to offer a broad support base to all BMW privateers. Drivers competing in a wide variety of series across the globe are able to amass points towards the overall classification. The purse for the 2009 BMW Sport Trophy amounts to €250,000.
