Mitsubishi unveils i MiEV SPORT AIR concept

Keeping up with the green theme underlying the majority auto shows these few months, Mitsubishi revealed its all-electric concept at the Motor Show in Geneva. Named the i MiEV SPORT AIR concept, this show auto is the continuation of the i MiEV series from Mitsubishi.

Unlike previous i MiEV concept units, the SPORT AIR is taking on a convertible body design. In true show vehicle fashion, this SPORT AIR does not use a soft conventional top, but a “clear cutaway” removable top. It does not look to be its way to the store the the SPORT AIR top aboard, so it's expected that configuration will be changed for the production. But, the top cleverly of the SPORT AIR incorporates some solar panels helping with the power duties.

The SPORT AIR runs with a “beefed-up electric motor”, having output variating from 47 kW to 60. Thanks to the lithium-ion battery wrap, the SPORT AIR is promising an all-electric 120 miles range — up twenty from the previous MiEV itteration. A complete charge takes seven-hours on a basic household plug, but the fast charge system allows for an 80 % charge in only 35 minutes.

The i MiEV SPORT AIR's production variant is expected to reach Japan in 2010.
