Nissan is announcing the EV partnership - San Diego Gas & Electric

Nissan, alongside with Renault - its parent firm, announced Monday the San Diego Gas & Electric partnership to advance further the electric car charging network. So, this announcement marks also the beginning of coast-to-coast tour of Nissan with its prototype – the Cube EV.

Nissan will be introducing its 1st mass market electric auto in the U.S. in 2010, having the SDG&E partnership viewed as an extremely important, vital part of this plan. Nissan affirms its EV prototype unit does not foreshadow necessarily the 2010 production EV design. 'Nissan through the Renault-Nissan Alliance has committed to being a global leader in zero-emission vehicles' affirmed Dominique Thormann, the senior vice president, administration/finance, Nissan North America. 'Nissan and SDG&E have a shared belief that the introduction and expansion of electric vehicles is one of the best solutions to reducing CO2 emissions. This partnership is an important step in making zero emissions a reality in San Diego'.

Under this particular agreement, Nissan will be helping SGE&G with 'EV acquisition' and the EV charging infrastructure promotion. Both firms will work also with groups and local companies to 'work towards the implementation and maintenance of a battery charging network and establish and support education activities designed to promote the use of Evs'. This Renault-Nissan Alliance already started testing EVs in Denmark, Israel, Japan and Portugal.
