Rolls-Royce unveils big engine for its RR4 - Silver Ghost

Tom Purves - Rolls-Royce CEO last month announced the engine production variant of the 200EX concept unit wouldn't be from those BMW parts bin plus would be an all-new V12 model. Purves has unveiled specific details now about the engine in New York at press conference.

The baby Roller, new that will revive hopefully the name - Silver Ghost, will be getting a V12 6.6-liter turbo charged engine producing 500 hp at least. While a .55 liters/cylinder displacement does not seem that much, it’s quite big in the community of V12, which rarely reaches above 50% a liter/cylinder. The Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 632 hp has a 6.5-liters displacement, plus the Ferrari Enzo 651 hp has a 6.0-liters displacement; so we believe the 6.6-liter V12 turbocharged in the 200EX will produce the 500 hp claim of 'upwards' for Rolls-Royce.

The factory will be fitted to an ZF automatic eight-speed transmission. Not that many people are surprised, Rolls-Royce's claiming now that the economy of fuel will be a lot better than the bigger Phantom. We will brig you more info unveiled on the amazing baby Roller unit between now and the moment when that production variant is expected at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September.

Tom Purves - Rolls-Royce CEO announced some details in New York at a press conference where the 200EX model is being shown currently to potential buyers on the 1st step of a tour worldwide. Mr. Purves affirmed at this event 'There has been a great deal of interest in this car since we first talked about producing a new model series in the autumn of 2006 and the reaction 200EX received at its unveiling at Geneva was very positive. As we move another step closer to the start of production at Goodwood, it is exciting to be able to share some of the specific technical details with customers and the media.' He added 'RR4 will deliver an authentic Rolls-Royce experience to owners, so expect peerless comfort and build quality. However, we have consciously engineered this car to be more involving and dynamic for those owners around the world that will wish to drive it themselves'.
