The sales of Honda Insight outpacing expectations, the NA production is still so far off...

New sales of autos may be off by forty % or more, but Honda is not having problems moving the brand new Insight hybrid unit. Demand for the hybrid (fuel-efficient) is about 3 times Honda expected in Japan, having demand in the U.S. proving to be powerful too.

Between 6th of February and 23rd of March, Honda racked up no less than 21,000 Insight Japan orders – Honda’s goal (far outpacing) of 5,000 sales monthly. Since Insight has been on sale only for a week in America there's no hard info, but early indications are quite promising.

Suzuka, Japan plant (for Insight) is cranking out already 600 Insights daily, with around 50% of those U.S. earmarked market. The production in North America would help Honda to keep the demands here, but this Japanese carmaker affirms Insight production in other places, not in Japan is a ways off still. 'To expand overseas, we need to develop our human resources' Hidetomo Mori, Suzuka factory manager told Automotive News. 'Hardwarewise, it is simple to manufacture the hybrids anywhere. But right now we lack the necessary engineers'.
