van den Acker is departing Mazda now for Renault

The car designer Laurens van den Acker, responsible for much of the present design language of Mazda, will become VP Corporate design of Renault, replacing Patrick le Quément, tenured designer who will retire at the end of 2009. A Ford's J Mays protege, van den Acker’s most newly-debuted car was Mazda3 2010.

Since he was placed in 2006 as top designer for Mazda, he creations of van den Acker included the carmaker’s Ryuga and Nagare concept autos, both of these inspired heavily the Mazda6 2009 and Mazda3 2010, as well as the new facelifts of the firm’s MX-5 Miata, CX-9 (pictured) and CX-7.

The Dutch designer started at Turin, Design System srl, Italy, where he really worked on the EB110 Bugatti’s interior. He worked alongside at Audi with J Mays and he followed in 1998 the designer to Ford.
