Toyota is predicting 40,000 Japanese pre-orders for Prius 2010, outpacing the demand for Honda Insight

Honda racked in an amazing 21,000 pre-orders for Insight in Japan right before the hybrid's budget hit the market at the beginning of 2009, but Toyota expects to almost double the number with its 3rd-generation Prius. So, the Prius 2010 will reach the market in Japan within the upcoming weeks.

Reuters reported that Toyota is expecting the pre-orders for Prius to top (in Japan) 40,000. The Japanese carmaker has taken already over 20,000 orders for tat ’10 unit. Toyota sold now 73,000 units of the present auto last year in Japan.

Pricing will be officially announced for Prius 2010, but the most popular hybrid in the world is expected now to list in Japan from 20,750 Dollars. Toyota will sell also the present-gen Prius alongside the brand new unit to better rival with Honda Insight. Toyota is planning to sell 400,000 models of the Prius this year, globally, having the American accounting for that figure's bulk.
