Tesla Motors now hopes to have the 2nd unit – sedan Model S – out on market by 2011, but Fisker, Tesla rival, plans on having 4 units by the same year in the showroom. Fisker will debut the Karma Sedan in the upcoming year followed one year later (closely) by the Karma Convertible model, but 2 other Fisker cars are in the pipeline also.
According to Henrick Fisker, company CEO, Fisker Automotive plans a 3rd unit based on the platform of Karma as well as a brand new entry-level machine. Fisker didn't give any more details on the all-new autos but did say they could be running on the streets in as little as, let's say... 29 months.
'We’re first doing the four-door and then we’re doing the convertible and then we’re planning some third derivative off the Karma platform' Fisker reported to The Oakland Press. 'Then we’re planning a high-volume vehicle for a lower price. We’ve applied for a Department of Energy grant. If that loan comes through, we’ll have this vehicle on the road in 29 months' While a 3rd variant of the Karma platform area is intriguing, and the real news here is the plan of Fisker to do a volume unit with a low price entry. The Karma Sedan auto will retail from around 88,000 Dollars, so a lower cost could mean easily 40,000 Dollars – the same price GM will charge probably for its Chevy Volt. If Fisker plans on doing a volume sedan having the sleek Karma styling, potential Volt clients will be faced then with a difficult decision on their hands. Subscribe to Car news by Email |
