GM is confirming the reopening of idled factory to make small auto

Though these news comes right before GM is expected to reveal the closure of 14 factories, the Detroit carmaker says it will be reopening 1 of the idled assembly factories to start production of the future Chevrolet Spark for export and domestic markets.

GM hasn't announced which factory will be reopened, but the rumors point to Janesville, Wisconsin, that made GMT900 SUV units until late 2008, or Moraine, Ohio, that made versions of the GMT360 platform (TrailBlazer) until 2008. General Motors could reopen also 1 of the factories whose close up will be announced Monday.

'Small cars represent one of the fastest growing segments in both the U.S. and around the world' affirmed General Motors President and CEO, Fritz Henderson, in the statement. 'We believe this car will be a winner with our current and future customers in the U.S.'.
