GM is opening brand new battery lab in Michigan

GM may be now right in the center of a bankruptcy filing (Chapter 11), but the carmaker from Detroit opened 1 of the most high tech battery labs (advanced) in the country this week, earlier. Based in Michigan, Warren the all-new factory intended for keeping General Motors at forefront of battery advanced technology.

The brand new Global Battery Systems Lab will be helping General Motors speed electric plus the plug-in hybrid cars to market, like the future Chevrolet Volt model. This battery lab (new) will help also GM to develop the fuel cell hydrogen autos.

'The new global GM battery lab will benefit consumers across America by helping us advance the development of battery technology in the United States and put cleaner, more efficient vehicles on the road more quickly and affordably' affirmed Fritz Henderson, the GM president and CEO. 'Our new lab improves GM’s competitiveness by speeding the development of our hybrid, plug-in and extended-range electric vehicles, including the Chevrolet Volt'.

The lab is covering 33,000 square feet – 4 times bigger than GM’s last battery facility. So, more than 1 thousand engineers will work for the Global Battery Systems Lab.
