Dacia`s first SUV name to be Kanjara

As many of you already know, a lot of rumors appeared in the beginning of the month regarding the first modern Romanian built SUV which is getting ready for its official debut that will most likely take place at the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show in September. Until the day when the show will open its doors, speculations and rumors will grow in intensity, while more and more details will be leaked.

The name under which the Dacia SUV will be marketed is one of the big unknowns. Even tough everyone is waiting to hear the confirmation of the name Duster, a catchy name in its own way, it seems that Renault will proceed with the same idea for naming the SUV as they did with the Nissan Qashqai.

A French website reported that the name of the new SUV could be Kanjara. Obviously, Renault has not given up on the Duster nameplate completely.

Still, no matter what its name will be, a couple of supplementary information has come to notice. If we are to believe the source of the report, the Dacia SUV will also be offered with a choice of an extended platform as well, that would probably become a seven-seat version.

The Dacia Kanjara/Duster, which will be inspired from the Nissan Qashqai, will most probably receive its power from medium displacement engines, according to first reports. The most probable engines that will be used to power the Kanjara will be a 1.6 liter petrol engine and a 1.5 liter diesel engine, with power outputs from 85 HP to 130 HP. Under the hood of the SUV a bigger 1.9 liter diesel engine may also be fitted.

The price level will be a low one, in any case lower in comparison to your average SUV. Dacia has gotten everyone to be used to a good price-to-value ratio for anything that rolls out of the Mioveni assembly line. Early hints suggest a possible starting price level of 18.000 euro.
