Fiat 500C will be toughened by Abarth

Rumors have it that Fiat is preparing two or more Abarth versions of its small 500C convertible in order to try and defeat the Mini Cooper in number of sales. The Italian automaker apparently is making the finishing touches required for its tougher convertible models. Unfortunately, a release date has not been confirmed yet, but rumors suggest that the 500C Abarth versions might hit the market by March 2010.

It seems that the Abarth versions were quite easy to modify, thanks to the canvas roof setup the Fiat 500C setup has. To make it more clear, the 500C retains the coupe version`s roof rails and pillars, thus making it rigid and light enough for a performance setup.

Rumors also say that the base model 500C Abarth will come with a 1.4 liter engine that has an output of 133 HP. A more powerful Abarth Esseesse will also hit the market, having the same engine but with a higher output of 157 HP. As all of you might of guessed, the 500C Abarth will be available with a whole bunch of customization models, like all Fiat 500 versions.

It seems that the 500C Abarth versions will have the same price level with the Mini counterparts, although the standard Fiat 500 is cheaper than the British cars in the same segment.
