Michael Schumacher wants to be allowed to make his tests on the F60

The multiple times world champion Michael Schumacher started to train for his return in the Formula 1 competition. His first training session on the track took place Friday in a Ferrari F2007, the car which Ferrari used in the 2007 Formula 1 season. The training took place at the Mugello track that is located near Florence in Italy.

The regulations for this year`s Formula 1 championship state that in-season testing is not allowed. Because of this, Michael Schumacher had to do the test driving a privately owned Formula 1 car from two years ago that was equipped with slick tires. Obviously, the tests could not be supervised by the Ferrari official team, so Ferrari`s separate department named ``F1 Clienti`` had to monitor the tests and the German driver`s results.

Ferrari has actually sent a letter to all the other Formula 1 teams asking them for an exception from the rules so that the 40 year old German driver can accommodate himself with the new F60 car before the Spanish F1 Grand Prix.

Niki Lauda, three times world champion, stated for Die Welt newspaper that ``If they wanted to be fair he should be able to test with the car (2009) at a Ferrari track``.

Apparently Ferrari`s attempt to get permission for Schumacher to test the 2009 F1 car will be successful, as the FOTA members (all of the teams except Williams and Force India) accepted Ferrari`s request.
