Through the voice of Akio Toyoda - the new president, Toyota continues making its products greener and said that fuel cell cars are scheduled for 2015. In Traverse City, on a car industry conference in July, Toyoda said that he has high expectations too from the American market, expecting to recover on the upcoming years, becoming even 'stronger than ever'.
'The company was making great progress on hydrogen fuel cell vehicles and hopes to make this technology available and affordable for customers within the next half dozen years' he reported to just-auto.com.
'I believe the U.S. market will not only recover, but come back stronger than ever. In fact, with 250m vehicles on the road and the best population growth in the developed world, the United States will serve as a major engine of growth for automakers for many years to come' continued Toyoda.
Toyoda confirmed also that the caarmaker will launch in 2012 an electric car, the iQ, it seems. Preliminary specifications show the new iQ model will have a 150 km (93 miles) range, needing about 8 hours to recharge completely its batteries.
Hiroki Nakajima, iQ’s chief engineer - affirmed in July, talking about the 1st electric car to be debuted by Toyota. 'We wanted to position the iQ as premium, but not so the BEV. In every wheel we had to be able to fit an electric motor. Our target is for customers to be able to charge it completely during the night'. Subscribe to Car news by Email |
