Ronnie O`Sullivan is making his debut on Motorsport

Ronnie 'The Rocket' O’Sullivan – 33 year old, World Champion of Snooker in 2001, 2004, 2008 ranked now world number 1 in the sport, trade his cue this weekend for the shift stick at the Volkswagen Racing Cup, on August 15-16, at Silverstone; Ronnie will drive the number 147 car.

O’Sullivan will be driving the turbocharged Volkswagen Jetta 2-litre in the 2 rounds of 20-minute racing. He says 'I’ll be happy just not to come last. I just want to get around, get some experience and have some fun'.

The firm that runs Volkswagen Racing Cup, RacingLine, helped Ronnie debuting in the motorsports world. He trained last week at Silverstone.

'Ronnie has been a great pupil so far' says Melissa Wright - RacingLine director. 'He has taken on board everything the instructors have told him and I think that his cool calculation, an attribute which has made him a sporting superstar, will prove very useful on the track as well. Once he has some miles under his belt his naturally competitive nature will propel him up the grid'.

He appeared on Fifth Gear at TV and on Top Gear’s ‘Star in a reasonably priced car’, but he never raced before. 'They were good things to do but this is my first real intense kind of motorsport experience. I want to continue racing; it’s something that I’m well into. I’m doing Silverstone and hopefully also the Brands Hatch races in September, and I definitely want to do more racing next year'.
