Changan Ford made its 400,000th Focus

The new Focus makes Ford proud, it's a very successful car worldwide. After the firm decided to up the Focus production meeting the high orders demand boosted by incentives from government, Changan Ford, the Chinese joint venture announced its 400,000th unit, rolled off at the factory's assembly line in Chongqing - southwest.

Jeffrey Shen, the CFMA President said 'We’re proud to celebrate the production of the 400,000th Ford Focus, which was launched here in China four years ago. With its outstanding styling and drivability, world-class engineering and safety, Ford Focus is firmly established as a star product in China’s highly competitive mid-sized car market. The success of this exciting car reflects Ford’s commitment to the Chinese market – to always provide our Chinese customers with products they want and value'.

Focus is quite successful in China, so Ford will offer over 10,000 models in July, meaning the 5th month (consecutive) when this car is exceeding the 10,000 model mark. Through the 1st seven months of 2009, Ford sales were 123,474 cars, which means a raise of 21.5% in the same period, in 2008.

'It would be too costly to engineer different engines for Europe and North America. Remember that powerplants are downsizing and getting closer in concept in North America and Europe, like the new EcoBoost turbo engines' he stated. But Focus RS will not debut in America, he said. 'We’d like to, but the base car isn’t homologated for North America, and that’s too costly a job to carry out just for a niche vehicle like the RS'.
