Toyota Prius, Kia Soul and Honda Insight received top safety picks

Safety and good economy on fuel aren't mutually exclusive, IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) gave 'top safety pick' to Kia Soul, Toyota Prius and Honda Insight. Meaning all 3 cars received the top rating IIHS of 'good' in side, rear and front impact tests.

All 3 cars have seen powerful sales success already, with the recent safety IIHS ratings, giving sales a boost. 'The latest results show that consumers who want good fuel economy can also get a high level of safety' an institute spokesman, Russ Rader told Automotive News. 'Because there are so many small cars that test well, there’s no reason to settle for a small car with less-than-stellar safety ratings'.

Rader however, says that small vehicles are less safe, compared to the big cars: 'The laws of physics still apply'. From the twenty-seven small autos the IIHS tested, just ten got a top safety pick – Toyota Corolla 2010 and Honda Civic 2009 included.
