Spy shots of Hyundai Sonata hybrid

We bring to you here maybe the first set of spy shots of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. The 2011 Hyundai Sonata hybrid prototype was seen doing some road tests under the hot sun somewhere in the United States of America. The first thing that we notice from the pictures is the open engine bay where we can see a small air intake duct mounted on the radiator support that has the letters HEV graved on it (Hybrid Electric Vehicle). There is no official data regarding the powertrain of the Hyundai Sonata hybrid, but rumors claim that the HBDA (Hybrid Blue Drive Architecture) technology from Hyundai might be used. The Hyundai Hybrid Blue Drive Architecture was launched by the South Korean automaker last year during the Los Angeles Auto Show. Hyundai`s hybrid technology consists of a 30 kW electric engine that has an output of 205 Nm of torque that will be mated to either a 2.4 liter Theta II engine or a 2.0 liter Theta Turbo GDI engine. Also, it is important to mention that both engines are linked to a six speed transmission.

The HBDA (Hybrid Blue Drive Architecture) technology from Hyundai also has a 270 V lithium polymer battery (instead of the usual lithium-ion battery). Obviously, the Start/Stop technology could not miss from Hyundai`s hybrid technology. The Hyundai Sonata is expected to hit the market towards the end of the next year with the hybrid version to be launched soon after.
