McLaren P11 spotted at the Nurburgring

The Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit is a fabulous circuit that hosts both important racing competitions but also testing done by famous automakers. What we have here is a set of spy photos in which you can see McLaren`s latest supercar creation, the P11, doing intensive testing.

As you can well see, the McLaren P11 has heavy camouflage on it, thus making it very hard to appreciate how the production version will look like precisely. Still, we get quite a clear image of the front bumper and of the large air intakes. From the looks of things, the McLaren P11 looks to be an extremely fast sports car.

From what we know until know, the McLaren P11 will be a two seat supercar with a mid mounted engine and a top mounted exhaust system that will replace the SLR McLaren. The McLaren P11 will be a fierce rival for the recently announced Ferrari 458 Italia and the Lamborghini Gallardo. The McLaren P11 will most likely get its power from a Mercedes V8 engine that will have an output of around 550 horsepower. The V8 engine will most likely be mated to a sequential gearbox derived from the Formula 1. The British automaker will also probably include the KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) technology on the P11 in order to make it more eco friendly. McLaren plans to produce 1000 units of the P11 supercar in 2011. Unfortunately, the official debut of the McLaren P11 has not been officially revealed.
