The European division of General Motors has taken the decision to officially confirm the engine range that will be available for the 2010 Opel Astra . This comes as we are getting close to the public debut of the Volkswagen Golf competitor that will take place next month during the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show. The 2010 Opel Astra will get its power from a choice of eight petrol and diesel engines that have outputs from 95 horsepower to 180 horsepower. The German automaker also claims that the entire range of engines benefits of a 12% lower fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions.
The petrol engine range consists of a 1.4 liter naturally aspirated engine that has an output of 100 horsepower and a 1.6 liter naturally aspired engine that has an output of 115 horsepower. The 2010 Opel Astra will also get two turbocharged gasoline engines, more precisely a 1.4 liter engine that has an output of 140 horsepower and a 1.6 liter engine that has an output of 180 horsepower.
Diesel engines could not miss out of the engine range available for the 2010 Opel Astra. Thus, the Astra will also be available with a choice of four diesel engines. To be more precise, we are talking about a 1.7 liter CDTI engine that has an output of either 110 horsepower or 125 horsepower along with a 2.0 liter CDTI engine that has an output of 160 horsepower. We will also see a 2010 Opel Astra ecoFLEX version that will get its power from a 1.3 liter CDTI engine that has an output of 95 horsepower that delivers an average fuel consumption of just 4.2 liters per 100 kilometers. Unfortunately, the ecoFlex version will hit the market later than the normal Astra, to be more precise in the spring of the next year.
Opel claims that the average fuel consumption of the four diesel engines is around 4.6 liters per 100 kilometers while the four petrol engines have an average fuel consumption of 6.1 liters per 100 kilometers.
Obviously, all the engines available for the 2010 Opel Astra meet the Euro 5 emission norms. The 2010 Opel Astra will come in standard with a six speed manual transmission. A five speed manual transmission will come with the 1.4 liter naturally aspired engine, the 1.6 liter turbocharged engine and the 1.3 liter CDTI turbo diesel engine. Also, the 1.6 liter naturally aspired engine, the 1.4 turbo charged engine and the 1.6 turbo engine, all on gasoline, along with the 2.0 turbo diesel engine will be available optionally with a six speed automatic transmission.
