The agonizing wait is finally over. Honda has finally released an official photo gallery of the Honda Accord Crosstour , after four episodes of teasing. At first we saw the grille, then the front headlights and fog lights, then the rear quarter and finally the alloy wheels. After a couple of weeks of a painful teasing, the Japanese automaker Honda has finally decided to show us how their new Accord Crosstour model looks like.
The first thing that we saw was the ``4WD`` badge which suggests that the car will be offered with all wheel drive, either optionally or standard. As you all know, the Honda Accord Crosstour is based on the Accord sedan available on the North American market. Honda claims that their Accord Crosstour combines the CUV (Crossover Utility Vehicle) increased ride height and all weather potential with the refinement of the sedan version of the Honda Accord.
Erik Berkman, vice president of American Honda Motor Co. stated that ``We know SUV buyers like the commanding view of the road that comes with a high eye-point and like the comforts of living with a SUV``. He continued by saying that ``This vehicle meets the needs of buyers looking for those attributes yet at the same time want an image that is different from a conventional SUV``.
To be honest, usually I am not the biggest fan of conventional things. But this time conventional would have been fabulous. I kept on hoping that the production version of the Honda Accord Crosstour would look better than what we saw in the spy photos back in May, but I was wrong. The Honda Accord Crosstour is a really ugly car. I think that car owners would have wanted a different image than that of a conventional SUV, but when they will see how the car looks they will reconsider their thoughts. Unfortunately, if you want to compete with a hideous car, it seems that you can only do it with another hideous car. I am sure that the build quality of the interior and the exterior of the Honda Accord Crosstour is great, and that the engine range is wonderful. I am also sure that the car will be extremely comfortable too. But, unfortunately, people who want their car to be all these things but want a pleasant design too will be disappointed. The Honda Accord Crosstour is actually an ugly car. Otherwise, in other terms of comparison, I am sure it is an excellent car, but design-wise it is just silly. BMW, you are not alone.
