At the Frankfurt Auto Show this year, the BMW car display is comprised of every development in design and technology the German builder made in 2009.

ActiveHybrid 7, recently announced, a car that will set 'new standards for performance and efficiency in the premium luxury class'. Through the few or the only one using an 'electric turbo'.

'The electric motor basically serves as an 'electric turbo'. As a result, the BMW ActiveHybrid 7 Series’ acceleration is even better than that of the BMW 750i. Besides offering enhanced performance, it also saves 15 percent in fuel and emissions. And this is exactly the idea behind our Efficient Dynamics strategy: to combine greater dynamics and greater efficiency' affirmed in Frankfurt Klaus Draeger, a BMW member of board.

The 7 Series hybrid runs with a TwinPower V8 turbo engine plus a 3-phase electric synchronous motor. It develops 455 hp and 516 lb.-ft top torque. The ActiveHybrid 7's engine is fitted to an automatic transmission - 8-speed and its electric motor placed between the torque converter and the engine.

The BMW is using also an Auto Start Stop system, that makes the ActiveHybrid 7 unit the 1st BMW that has automatic transmission using a device like this.

The car is accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in only 4.8 seconds, topping at 240 km/h (150 mph) speed, electronically limited. Compared to 750i, this hybrid is around 15 % more fuel efficient; until now the official fuel consumption ratings EPA aren't available yet.
