The Italian automaker Maserati decided it was time to publicly unveil their new convertible version of the Maserati GranTurismo coupe. The convertible version is called Maserati GranCabrio. The Maserati GranCabrio was publicly presented during this year`s edition of the Frankfurt Auto Show. The Maserati GranCabrio is actually the first four seat convertible model of the Italian automaker in its entire history. Obviously, the convertible version of the GranTurismo uses the same engine as the coupe. Thus, the Maserati GranCabrio gets its power from a V8 4.7 liter engine that has an output of 440 horsepower that is coupled to a six speed automatic transmission. The cloth top is smoothly hidden under a special compartment behind the rear seats in just 28 seconds after the press of a button.
The aerodynamics of the vehicle was one of the most important things for the Maserati engineers. The engineers working for Maserati created a flat aluminium base that reduces Cx by six points and adds to the overall body rigidity. The convertible version will have the same aerodynamic performance as the coupe, with a Cx level of 0.35. Thus, as the Italian automaker claims, it will be the first time in history when a convertible model will have the same aerodynamic performance as the coupe model on which it is based.
The Italian automakers intends to bring to start taking in orders for the Maserati GranCabrio starting this December while the first happy customers will get their dream car sometime in the spring of the next year, just in time to fully profit from the convertible factor of the car.
All in all, the car looks great, just like Maserati has made us used to. The only thing that could be considered a setback is the kind of big time of 28 seconds for the cloth top to come up and down. In the case of a sudden rain, imagine how wet will the passengers get until the roof is set up. Other than this minor setback, the Maserati GranCabrio is a fabulous car.
