Renault ZOE electric supermini unveiled in Frankfurt

The French automaker Renault has unveiled an electric concept at the Frankfurt Auto Show. Actually, this is just one of the four electric car concepts presented by the French automaker at the 2009 edition of the Frankfurt Auto Show. The car`s name is Renault Zoe. This car wants to show that, despite the usual conception that electric cars ruin all the fun of the normal cars, an electric car can be really fun too. In this case, the Renault Zoe seems to be fun, at least in terms of design. The Renault Zoe is a four seat super mini. Maybe the most interesting features of the electric car are represented by the butterfly doors at the rear and the scissor doors at the front.

The Renault Zoe gets its power from an electric engine that has an output of 93 horsepower. The electric engine takes its juice from a lithium ion battery pack that offers a driving range of about 160 kilometers. Practically, the Renault Zoe has the same drivetrain as the electric compact sedan concept Renault Fluence .

Other very interesting features include photovoltaic cells on the rooftop that have the role to recover solar energy that is meant to power the climate control system which has been developed in a partnership with the L`Orea company. The climate control system has spray features like active scent, hydrating and detox. Other interesting features of the Renault Zoe include a retractable rear spoiler for greater aerodynamic efficiency and massive 21 inch alloy wheels.

All in all, it is clearly that the Renault Zoe will never reach production version looking like this and with this kind of features and equipment. Still, Renault is claiming that these four electric concept vehicles are the basis of a range of electric vehicles that they intend to launch in 2011, so we will wait and see what happens.
